Introduction:
Learn how to make a fan napkin fold inspired by the oriental Ogi Asian fan! This elegant napkin fold can be used for any special occasion and is super easy to do. With the fan napkin fold, you’ll create an triangular-shaped fan that’s beautiful to look at. This napkin folding technique is great for festive events such as weddings and birthdays because of its elegant yet simplistic design. Matches with Asian theme parties as well! If you don’t’ want to use it as a table napkin, you can use any regular paper and turn it into an origami fan.
Make the outer part of the fan napkin fold
Let's make the outer edge of the fan napkin fold first! Get a square piece of napkin and lay it on a flat surface.
Bring the bottom edge to the top edge.
Fold a big area of the topmost layer downwards. Make sure to leave at least an inch of the topmost layer at the upper side.
Mountain fold the bottom layer to the back. Make sure the length of the topmost layer is the same as the folded bottom layer.
When viewed from the side, the top edge of the napkin should look something like this. The folded napkin should have four layers.
Attach the outer fan to another napkin
Grab another piece of napkin! It's better to use a napkin that is different in color. It will make the fan napkin look aesthetically nicer.
Fold the second napkin in half. If you notice, the first napkin is smaller.
Place the first napkin (red) partly on top of the second napkin (blue).
Bring the bottom half of the second napkin to the first napkin.
The first napkin should cover only one-half of the second nap. This should be what the two napkins should look like at sideview. The first napkin is in between the second napkin like a sandwich.
Make an accordion fold
To make a napkin fan, we need to make an accordion fold. Bring around an inch of the left edge to the right.
This time fold around an inch of the left edge to the back. Make sure the fold has the same width as the previous fold.
Keep folding the joined napkins to the front and then to the back until you reach the right edge.
Make a handle for the fan napkin fold
Let's make the handle of the fan napkin fold! Grab a piece of thick paper, a pair of scissors, and tape or glue.
Cut the craft paper into a rectangle. It's up to you what length you want the paper to be. The longer the of the paper, the longer the handle of the fan will be.
Wrap the craft paper to the bottom edge of the napkin.
Secure the handle with tape and then flare the napkin a bit. The Asian-inspired fan napkin fold is done!
