Origami Onion Shaped Gift Box To Wind Up

Make the strips of the onion shaped gift box

Grab a piece of colored paper. Any color of your choice will do!

In the first step, you have to make strips that are 15 centimeters long from each colored paper.

Optional Step: You may use more than one colored paper to make different colored strips

The number of strips depends on how you want each strip to be close to one another.

Grab a puncher to make a hole.

Make a hole using a puncher on one end of the strips. The hole should be about 0.5 centimeters from the edge.

Punch a hole the on the other strips as well.

Assemble the gift bag

Cut a circle out of colored paper. It should be about six centimeters in diameter or depending on how big you want the bottom base to be.

For this project, we need 2 pieces. Cut two circle with identical sizes.

Grab the strips of paper made.

Glue each strip of colored paper to the circle cutout in a circular direction. Glue only the end that has no hole.

Once you have glued all the strips, glue the same circle cutout to the center of all the strips with hot glue.

Tip: When you have glued the circle to the strips, you will notice that the overlapping strips are pretty thick. To solve that problem, cut out the “paper mound” and fill the hole with hot glue.

Wrap the present inside the gift box

To close the gift wrapper, thread a ribbon, yarn or string on each hole starting from the outside.

Bring the threaded strips to the center so it will shape into an onion.

Thread every strip to the cord. Just make sure to leave at least a three strips unthreaded.

Insert the gift inside before threading everything.

Fully thread all the strips of the gift bag.

When you reach the end, all you have to do is pull the two ends of the cord together and make a small loop.

Tie it nicely and your lovely gift box is done!
